On November 9 (Sat.), our study group held a public study session.
On Saturday, November 9, 2019, an open study session was held by the officers and members of our study group. This month, many doctors participated for the first time, and two psychiatrists who had recently joined as supporting members joined us as well.
Therefore, the theme of this issue is “Mental Illness and Gut Bacteria”.
Recently, we have been hearing more and more about the brain-gut correlation, and we are receiving more and more inquiries from depressed and autistic families.
In the first part, Dr. Masahiko Shirotani, Director of Luke’s Ashiya Clinic, spoke on “Intestinal Flora: Mental Care during Transplantation. Dr. Hitomi Shirotani, a clinical psychologist, also joined us and talked about how transplant recipients have changed through psychological tests and counseling.

Dr. Seiji Koide, Director of Koide Clinic, who recently joined as a supporting medical member, gave us an update on the current treatment of mental illness.

The second part was an open study session, which was also attended by observers.
Dr. Zen Tanaka, Representative Director and Director of Tanaka Clinic, reported on a case in which a patient whose flora balance was improved by intestinal flora transplantation, but who could not feel any improvement in symptoms, showed improvement by combining mental care with the transplant. The patient was able to open her mind and talk about the cause of her illness, etc., and improved.

Next month’s workshop will be on Saturday, December 14. The function of intestinal bacteria is profound and full of possibilities. With your continued support, we will continue to advance our research on a daily basis.

At this monthly study session, case reports and basic research on intestinal flora are presented. The meeting is a place for clinicians to study and learn about intestinal flora transplantation as a new medical treatment for many people with confidence.
