No.5 Introduction of Recent Papers on Microbiome Research (Frontiers of Microorganisms and Intestinal Bacteria)

In the early days, papers on associations between bacterial face (species) and disease were prominent, but recently, many studies seem to focus on metabolism (function) and transcriptome.
With genomic analysis technology readily available, the number of publications on the invisible microbiome, or gut bacteria, has increased exponentially over the past decade or so.
Here we regularly present articles collected from PubMed using keywords such as ‘gut microbiome’ ‘FMT’.
On the one hand, it is dangerous to rely on new papers, as they have not yet been evaluated, and on the other hand, they give us access to the frontiers of research.
We encourage you to read the main points that interest you, even if only to the point!

(Gut microbiome signature of metabolically healthy obese individuals according to anthropometric, metabolic and inflammatory parameters
(Abstract: Fecal samples were collected and m16S rDNA sequenced from 120 metabolically healthy obese adults. Clinical typing, metabolic and inflammatory values were analyzed simultaneously. They were divided into types 1 and 2. The type 1 gut bacteria were predominantly Prevotellidae, with high serum interleukin levels and decreased gut bacterial diversity observed. Their feces also contained a large number of extracellular vesicles derived from the genus Prevotella, and fewer Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Ackermansia, and Bacteroidetes.

(Abstract) Using the INFOGEST method, this study examines how formula supplemented with ingredients that mimic breast milk, regular formula, and breast milk differ in bacterial composition and short-chain fatty acid production. Although only in vitro, the supplemented formula resulted in a bacterial composition and short-chain fatty acid production capacity that was comparable to breast milk. Note, however, that it is not identical to breast milk.

(Multi-omic profiling reveals associations between the gut microbiome, host genome and transcriptome in patients with colorectal cancer
(Abstract) Genomic and transcriptomic analyses were performed on the fecal microbiota of 41 colorectal cancer patients and tissues collected from tumor-bearing and non-tumor-bearing areas.
As a result, 22 microbial associations were identified, and four additional genes were associated with cancer-associated microorganisms. Among them, Fusobacterium nucleatum was found to alter the tumor immune environment. These results suggest that multi-omics analysis may be useful for diagnosis.
