Intestinal flora transplantation and case studies

【Report vol.2】5th Annual Meeting: Case Report (1) Ulcerative Colitis

Report on the 5th Annual Meeting <vol.2>

“A case of intestinal flora transplantation (NanoGAS®-FMT) may have contributed to the remission of ulcerative colitis.”

Dr. Yasuhito Mikawa, Director, Natural Art Clinic

This is a case report by Dr. Yasuhito Mikawa, practicing in Yotsuya, Tokyo.

A case of ulcerative colitis that was found to be in remission by the attending physician on endoscopy 3 months after starting NanoGAS®-FMT was published online.

Prior to her visit to the Natural Art Clinic, the patient’s inflammation tended to decrease after she started medication, but her symptoms were not stable enough and fluctuated up and down, with occasional episodes of abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloody stools. The patient’s condition was further aggravated by diet and stress, and she was able to control her diet and lifestyle on her own, and her condition stabilized considerably, but did not go into remission.

In order to improve transplantation efficiency, improvement of the intestinal environment and nutritional condition was performed prior to transplantation. In this report, we describe the progress of this case, including the treatment course and laboratory data.

[Related] Interviews with patients about their transplant experiences were realized.

This interview was made possible by his cooperation. After suffering from ulcerative colitis herself, she studied a lot about the risks of antibiotics, diet, and intestinal bacteria, and made the decision to undergo an intestinal flora transplant.
Her own efforts and the transplant were successful, and she was able to receive a decision from her doctor that she was in remission after a diagnosis by her primary care physician and an endoscopic examination at another hospital.
