The 6th Study Session hosted by the Intestinal Flora Transplantation Clinical Study Group was held.
Regular study meeting was held in Osaka on Saturday, February 2, 2019. The agenda for this year’s meeting included a lively discussion about the Ethics Committee and the blood tests to be performed before and after transplants, which will be implemented starting this year. The Clinical Research Act was revised last April, and guidelines for conducting clinical research have become even stricter. Although several universities are currently conducting clinical trials for intestinal flora transplantation, there are no other private medical institutions in Japan at this time that are conducting clinical research in an organized manner as a research group. While there are no legal regulations in place, we are accumulating academic and scientific clinical research on our own, and are constantly working to establish this as a safer and more effective treatment. By incorporating blood tests before and after intestinal flora transplantation, we are not only examining changes in the balance of intestinal flora (intestinal bacteria) due to transplantation, but also the relationship between intestinal bacteria and changes in the body in greater detail. As a clinical report, Dr. Shirotani, Director of Luke’s Ashiya Clinic and Executive Director of our study group, presented a case report. By sharing cases of patients who have undergone transplantation at multiple medical institutions with doctors at medical institutions belonging to the study group, we have a valuable opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of intestinal flora transplantation. We will continue to hold regular study sessions this year. Please look forward to the development of intestinal flora transplantation.
