Irritable bowel syndrome, male in his 80’s – Case report of fecal microbiota transplantation

Constant gas in the abdomen, pressure and dull pain throughout the day. Farting and burping frequently, regardless of whether it is before or after meals. Constipation most days, with 5~6 small bowel movements in a day. Abdominal pain always occurs after each bowel movement. The pain subsides after about an hour, but the same condition repeats itself every day. Diarrhea is rare. Transplantation is started with the above symptoms.

After the first transplant, the frequency of bowel movements decreased from 5-6 times/day to 3 times/day, and after the second transplant, it decreased to 2 times/day, but abdominal distention and abdominal pain after bowel movements persisted. After 5 and 6 transplants, she had 6 stools, and her abdominal distention and abdominal pain did not improve.

Chief complaint :Constant gas in the abdomen, pressure and dull pain throughout the day. Farting and burping frequently, regardless of whether it is before or after meals. Colonoscopy, gastroscopy, and pet examination are performed, but no abnormalities are found.

(From patient) Soft stools and frequency of bowel movements has increased. Abdominal pain after defecation.

Abdomen: tenderness in the lower part of the navel.
Bowel sounds: increased.

【5th transplantation questionnaire】
(From patient) Defecation about 6 times a day is the same, not diarrhea but soft stool. Abdominal pain during defecation is the same as after the last transplant.

Abdomen: bloating

【6th transplantation questionnaire】
(From the patient) Symptoms are the same as after the last transplant. 6 defecations per day, not diarrhea, but soft stools are still present. She has abdominal pain during defecation and continues to have abdominal distention as well.

Abdomen: mild tenderness over lower abdomen
