Recognizing Engineers and R&D Professionals

The Local Invention Awards, started in 1921, honor engineers and research and development personnel who have created outstanding inventions, devices, or designs that have been implemented. Last year, 1,364 people were honored nationwide. This is your chance to showcase your inventions to the public through these awards. (Inventions eligible for the awards must be patented, registered as a utility model, or registered as a design, and be in use.)

Call for inventions, etc. to drive local industry

The national competition is divided into eight regions (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu). We are looking for outstanding inventions from each of these regions.

Here’s your chance to take it to the next level!

The Local Commendation for Invention is connected to the National Commendation for Invention, which is implemented on a national scale. Furthermore, for those who have completed outstanding inventions, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Commendation and national honors (Decoration of Merit and Medal of Honor) are also open to them. Many people have received these awards as a result of the Local Commendation for Invention, and the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII), as a nominating organization, actively recommends people who have made outstanding contributions to science and technology.

It is an award-winning project with a long history.

The commendation business is one of the pillars of the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII), which was established in 1905. Among these, the Local Commendation for Invention was launched in 1921, and the history of this commendation can be said to be a footstep in the progress of science and technology in Japan.
